What to expect

Where young athletes discover the artistry of movement.

Circus Acro is the heart of Perhosvoltti's youth training program. Designed for ages 7–10, this comprehensive circus acrobatics program blends floor acrobatics, handstands, flexibility training, aerial exploration, and circus props into a structured journey that builds strength, confidence, and artistry — one level at a time.

Every student progresses through our proven level card system, a clear and motivating framework that tracks individual growth across foundational and intermediate skills. Students earn take-home achievement cards as they master each level — tangible milestones that celebrate their dedication and progress.

The program runs across two progressive stages:

Acro Basics (Levels 1–2) — The foundation. Perfect for beginners and developing acrobats, this stage covers floor acrobatics fundamentals including forward and backward rolls, bridges, cartwheels, handstand progressions, basic circus props, and light muscle conditioning. Students build the strength, flexibility, body control, and spatial awareness essential for all circus disciplines.

Acro Intermediate (Levels 3–4) — The next chapter. For students ready to go further, the focus shifts to roundoffs, back walkovers, front walkovers, aerial foundations, back handspring preparation, and introductory partner acrobatics. Emphasis moves toward precision, control, proper technique, and combining skills into sequences.

Classes are led by Olia Vahtola, a professional circus artist with over 30 years of experience and international training from France, Sweden, and Ukraine. With a maximum of 15 students per class, every child receives individual attention, personalized corrections, and encouragement within a supportive group setting.

Safe progression is always the priority. Students advance at their own pace — mastery is celebrated over speed, and the level card system ensures no one is pushed beyond what they can safely perform.

Skills learned

Acrobatic foundations and progression — From first somersaults through to walkovers and aerial preparation, students build skills systematically across levels 1–4.

Handstand mastery — Wall-assisted holds progressing to freestanding balance and walking on hands, developing upper body strength and spatial orientation.

Flexibility and bridge work — Bridge positions, bridge stands, and progressive backbend development that support safe advancement into intermediate acrobatics.

Circus props and aerial exploration — Introduction to juggling, balance equipment, hoops, and foundational aerial elements including trapeze and fabric work.

Strength conditioning for acrobatics — Age-appropriate muscle conditioning specifically designed to support the physical demands of circus training.

Body awareness, coordination, and spatial intelligence — Understanding how to move through space with control, a skill that transfers into every sport and physical activity.

Confidence, perseverance, and goal-setting — The level card system teaches children to set goals, work toward them consistently, and experience the reward of earned achievement.

Prerequisites

For Acro Basics: No previous acrobatics experience required. Students should be comfortable following multi-step instructions in a group setting and able to work safely with peers. All beginners are welcome.

For Acro Intermediate: Students must demonstrate the following skills, either through completion of the Basics level card or teacher assessment:

  • Forward and backward rolls performed safely
  • Handstand against wall with feet together
  • Walking a few steps on hands
  • Bridge and bridge stand
  • Clean cartwheel
  • Safe landing mechanics

Minimum one semester of Basics or teacher approval based on skills assessment is required. Students may be recommended to continue in Basics if prerequisite skills are not yet safely demonstrated.

Not sure which level is right? Book a trial class (€25) for an instructor assessment and personalized recommendation. The trial fee is credited toward enrollment if your child joins a semester class.
