Perhosvoltti's Circus Acro Teen program is a comprehensive training pathway for students ages 10–15, taking young acrobats from their first tumbling skills through to performance-level technique. With 90-minute sessions that allow for proper warm-up, focused skill work, creative exploration, and targeted conditioning, this program gives teens the time and structure they need to develop seriously — while keeping training dynamic, collaborative, and grounded in the performing arts.
Every student progresses through the level card system, providing clear benchmarks and personal goal-setting at every stage. The program runs across three progressive levels:
The starting point for teens. Designed for students who are either new to acrobatics or transitioning from a basics-level program. The mixed-level format is intentional: beginners train alongside students progressing into intermediate work, so newer students see where they're headed while more experienced ones stay sharp on fundamentals. Training covers foundational tumbling through roundoffs, back walkover progressions, back handspring preparation, and performance elements — all while introducing choreography and ensemble work from day one.
For students who have mastered the basics and are ready for more complex acrobatics. The focus shifts to advanced combinations, complex handstand variations, and partner acrobatics. This is where training starts to feel like art — students learn to combine skills with control, confidence, and early artistic awareness.
For dedicated teens who have moved beyond intermediate skills. Training at this level is about mastering how you move, not just what you can do. Students work on back handspring series, twisting elements, and rotational skills while developing the artistic interpretation and stage presence that transforms acrobatics into performance.
Intermediate and advanced students share the Wednesday session, creating a dynamic environment where athletes learn from each other and are challenged at their own level. Many students at this stage supplement their group training with private lessons or small group sessions to accelerate progress on specific skills — and that combination of group energy and individual focus is where the biggest breakthroughs happen.
Classes are led by Olia Vahtola, professional circus artist with over 30 years of experience and international training from France, Sweden, and Ukraine. With a maximum of 15 students per class, every teen receives individualized progressions within the group structure — your child works at their own level, not someone else's.
A progress update is provided mid-semester, and one makeup class is available per semester.

Progressive tumbling from beginner through advanced — From foundational rolls and cartwheels through roundoffs, walkovers, back handspring series, and skills progressing toward movements without hand support.
Handstand mastery and variations — Wall-assisted holds developing into freestanding balance, complex variations, alignment work, and extended hold times.
Partner acrobatics — Supported balances, synchronized movement, and trust-based acrobatic partnering that develops collaboration and communication.
Performance and choreography — Connecting skills into fluid sequences with artistic intention, developing stage presence, emotional expression, and the ability to tell a story through movement. At Perhosvoltti, acrobatics is a performing art, not just a sport.
Flexibility development — Dedicated stretching work progressing toward the range of motion required for walkovers, bridges, and full splits.
Strength conditioning for growing bodies — Age-appropriate, targeted exercises that build the specific power acrobatics demands while protecting developing bodies and preventing injury.
Circus props and creative exploration — Expanded work with juggling, balance equipment, and performance tools that broaden each student's circus vocabulary.
Body awareness, self-correction, and control — Learning to understand proper form, execute with intention, and self-correct — essential skills that accelerate progress across every discipline.
Level card progression — Structured advancement through Levels 1–4+ with clear skill benchmarks, personal goal-setting, and take-home achievement cards that make progress visible.
This is the entry point for teens. It's equally suitable for teens who are brand new to acrobatics and those advancing from a basics-level program. The key physical requirement is the ability to sustain a 90-minute training session, which is a step up in intensity and focus from shorter beginner classes. Experience in gymnastics, dance, martial arts, or another movement discipline translates well — contact us or book a trial class and the instructor will confirm the right placement.
Students should have basic tumbling skills — cartwheels, rolls, and bridges — or pass a teacher assessment. Students must have completed the Acro Basics level card requirements or demonstrate equivalent skills. Specifically, your teen should be able to perform forward and backward rolls, hold a handstand against the wall with feet together, walk a few steps on their hands, get into a bridge and stand up from it, and perform a clean cartwheel.
Students must have a solid roundoff, front and back walkover, along with a minimum of two semesters of training at Perhosvoltti or equivalent experience elsewhere. Controlled landing mechanics, strong body awareness, and consistently safe skill execution are required. Final placement is confirmed by the instructor.
Not sure which level is right? Book a trial class (€25) for an instructor assessment and personalized recommendation. If your teen is coming from another school or sport, contact us and we'll arrange an assessment — what matters is readiness, not where the training happened. The trial fee is credited toward enrollment.
