A dedicated space for the art of acrobatics — in Helsinki's Suutarila neighbourhood.

Perhosvoltti began in January 2013, when professional circus artist Olia Vahtola launched two classes — toddler circus and adult acrobatics — on the upper level of Tikkurila Swimming Hall in Vantaa.
Within a year, demand had grown so much that classes were running every day of the week across multiple school locations: Simonkallio, Hiekkaharju, Vierumäki, and Havukoski.
In December 2015, the business incorporated as Perhosvoltti Circus Arts Oy. The following month, Perhosvoltti moved into its own dedicated studio in Helsinki's Suutarila neighbourhood — where it has been ever since.
Today, approximately 400 students train at Perhosvoltti every year.
The Perhosvoltti studio is a dedicated training facility designed specifically for acrobatics and circus arts instruction. The space is equipped with professional-grade acrobatics equipment, safety mats and training aids, aerial apparatus (static trapeze and fabrics) for applicable classes, and a range of circus props including juggling and balance tools.
The facility is set up to accommodate different age groups and skill levels throughout the week, from 4-year-olds in their first parent-child class to experienced teens working through advanced level progressions.
Safety isn't an afterthought at Perhosvoltti — it's the foundation everything is built on.

Students never jump ahead. Every movement is taught in carefully sequenced steps, building a solid foundation before advancing to more complex skills. This approach prevents injury and builds genuine confidence.

Group classes are capped at 12–15 students, ensuring every student receives individual attention and proper supervision. For even more focused instruction, small groups of 4 and private lessons are available.

The studio uses professional-grade acrobatics equipment that is regularly inspected and maintained. All training areas include appropriate safety mats and aids.

Students aged 7 and above progress through a structured level card system with clear skill benchmarks. This ensures students develop skills in the right order and gives parents full visibility into their child's progress.

Before training begins, every student (or their parent/guardian) reviews the Student Commitment document, which outlines safety expectations, communication procedures, and shared responsibilities. Parents must inform Perhosvoltti of any health conditions, injuries, or limitations that could affect training.

All students must have personal accident insurance that covers injuries sustained during physical activity. In Finland, this is typically included in a home insurance policy. Perhosvoltti does not separately insure students — families are responsible for confirming their coverage.

Students should come in normal sportswear — a tracksuit or similar comfortable clothing. Long hair must be tied back. All jewellery, watches, rings, and similar accessories must be removed before class. Bring your own water bottle. For aerial classes, clothing should provide full-body coverage.

Parents do not typically stay in the studio during class. Perhosvoltti holds periodic open classes where parents can observe. Parents of young children (especially under 6) must remain on the premises or nearby during class, and should arrive before class ends for pickup. When dropping off, make sure your child is with the instructor before leaving.

Students (or their guardians) must inform the instructor of any illnesses, injuries, pain, or physical limitations before class. If a condition requires special attention or action during training, please provide specific instructions. Keeping your contact details current with Perhosvoltti is essential — unexpected situations can arise, and we need to be able to reach you.

Perhosvoltti communicates any cancellations, time changes, or important updates via email and the website. Students and families should check the website regularly for the latest information.
Olia takes each child into account as an individual and moves the teaching forward accordingly. A huge thank you for everything so far!
